The SWA is a Professional Association whose primary aim is to support all spiritualistic service providers effected by the change in UK law that made them sole traders. Our secondary aim is to Define, Promote, and Protect Excellence in the Field of Spiritual Work and to ensure that all our members adhere to the highest possible standards.

Whilst it is not a legal requirement to have insurance as a self employed person in the UK, why as a professional would you not? It protects you and shows your a professional that takes your trade, your business seriously therefore the SWA makes it a condition of your terms and conditions of membership, but no you don’t have to have insurance with us and we give you three months to put your insurance in place. Our preferred insurance provider and working partners are Westminster Insurance (please quote SWA when applying)

If you start working for yourself, you may need to report your income to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). You may also need to set up a business. You need to tell HMRC about any income that is not taxed at source. This includes income from self-employment and if you trade or receive goods, income or gifts for the exchange of any services you should be self employed and telling the inland revenue of your untaxed at source income. This includes Spiritual services and is UK law.
